Liverpool have appointed the right manager for the job in Jurgen Klopp, but any talk of a sustained challenge for the Premier League title this season, or even next, is premature, according to club hero John Barnes.
The German was officially named as Brendan Rodgers’ successor on Thursday night after a week of intense speculation following the sacking of the Northern Irishman – who was dismissed in the aftermath of Sunday’s Merseyside derby draw with Everton.
Klopp arrives with a reputation as one of Europe’s finest head coaches after enjoying an excellent spell with Dortmund, whom he left at the end of last season.
In his timeÂat the Westfalenstadion the 48-year-old helped the club to rise from the lower end of the Bundesliga to become back-to-back champions in 2011 and 2012, despite the financial clout of German giants Bayern Munich.
With BVB then and Liverpool now, to a degree, comparable, some fans are starting to think about title challenges under Klopp, but TitanBet brand ambassador Barnes thinks that it’s far too early for such talk.
When asked f the German is the right man for the job, he said:
“As much as anybody else can be.
“Being the right man for the job doesn’t mean that he’ll win the league at Liverpool with this team as it stands, though.
“Jurgen Klopp is a fantastic manager, as is Carlo Ancelotti [also linked with the job], but what has to happen for success is for him to be given time and support. If it doesn’t work straight away there needs to be patience.â€
