Everton are set for another busy summer of transfer business – but should the Toffees be searching for Leighton Baines’ replacement?
It’s no secret that Everton have been hunting for a new left back, with this week’s links to FC Paris’ Thomas Delaine following last week’s interest in Espanyol youngster Aaron Martin.
The Toffees have improved drastically since the likes of Baines, Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman returned from injuries, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be looking to upgrade.
Baines has been a fantastic full back for years, but the Englishman will turn 34 next season, and will quickly lose the overlapping ability that makes both him and Coleman so dangerous.

Of course, the Kirkby born defender is a fan favourite at Goodison, which is exactly why a move for Espanyol’s Martin makes sense, as the 21 year-old Spaniard could learn from Baines on the job.
Baines, who has 30 England caps, is a great leader for the Toffees and absolutely should stay at the club, but the Blues should be looking for his replacement this summer, rather than waiting until it’s too late.
So, Everton fans, do you think it’s time to start shopping for Baines’ successor? Let us know by voting in the poll below…
