Everton fans on Twitter have been left fuming after a remark by The Mirror in one of their online articles on Monday.
The national newspaper had done an online story about the race for the top four in the Premier League, noting that Arsenal were behind “Carlo Ancelotti’s faltering Everton”.
The story has since been updated as you can see here, but it’s fair to say that Toffees supporters weren’t happy with the original.

Considering the Merseyside outfit were in the relegation zone when Marco Silva was sacked at the beginning of December and are now ninth and four points adrift of fifth following four wins and two draws from Ancelotti’s seven top flight matches at the helm, they’ve certainly got a point.
In fact, if they carry on at their current rate they could easily be top-four contenders themselves.
Everton supporters have been reacting to screenshots of the original article from the Royal Blue Mersey and Toffee TV fan accounts on Twitter, as you can see below.
One called it “remarkable”, with another labelling it as “a joke”.
Meanwhile, others believe that the newspaper and perhaps the media in general have an “agenda” against Everton, with one telling the papers to come out and say that they hate the Toffees.
Did he really play for us?! No Everton fan has managed to name all of these obscure Toffees players….
Interestingly enough, Mirror journalist Darren Lewis had said on talkSPORT prior to the Italian’s appointment that Duncan Ferguson would have been a better choice.
Others just chose to hit out at journalism in general, and you do have to feel that research wasn’t done here to great effect when analysing Everton’s recent form and results.
Meanwhile, others were quick to focus in more detail on the results that Ancelotti has picked up to date, with his only league defeat coming away against the reigning Premier League champions, Manchester City.
It’s been anything but a faltering period for Everton then who have gradually risen up the top-flight standings.
In other Everton news, Toffees fans are keen to sign a 21-year-old who cost his current club £40m just six months ago…
